Extracurriculars
Atkins Camel Battalion offers the most extracurricular JROTC programs out of any other Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. The Camel Battalion has 6 different teams to compete on. They are: Color Guard, Cyberpatriot, Drill Team, JLAB, Raider, and Rifle Team.
Color Guard

The Color Guard, led by the Command Sergeant Major, has the honor of posting the National colors and school flag during major school and sporting events. The Color Guard competes simultaneously with the Drill Team at Drill Competitions. Color Guard is focused around precision and ceremonious presentation.

Cyberpatriot
Cyberpatriot is a recent addition to the Camel Battalion. Cyber inspires cadets to pursue a future career in cyber security. Atkins is a STEM school, so the implementation of Cyberpatriots makes sense. To find out more about Cyber, visit http://www.uscyberpatriot.org/ to learn more.

Drill Team
The Drill team is one of the strongest extracurriculars is JROTC. There are two categories of drill: Regulation and Exhibition. Regulation is standardized drill where cadets are prioritizing individual, duet, squad, and platoon sized precision, both armed and unarmed. Exhibition is fancy movement either armed or unarmed where cadets are challenged for creativity and military flavor.

JLAB Team
JLAB stands for Junior Leadership Academic Bowl. The JLAB team competes against other schools locally as well as nationally. There are two subdivisions of JLAB: Academics and Leadership. Academics focuses on SAT style questions while Leadership focuses on LET knowledge. JLAB will challenge your mind as well as your ability to work together as a team.

Raider Team
The Raider Team competes in physical fitness and challenging confidence building competitions against other JROTC programs. The Raider Team's events include the 5K, push ups, sit ups, rope bridge, vehicle pull, and various other PT courses.

Rifle Team
The rifle team tests your ability to shoot a pellet rifle. The three basic positions are prone, standing, and kneeling. The targets used are the basic army 10 meter bore targets.

Military Ball
The Military Ball is a formal event that joins the WSFCS JROTC programs for one night. The Military Ball is held in the Spring at the Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem. Features a guest speaker, acknowledgements of fallen comrades, a celebration of the oldest soldier in the military, ending with music and dancing. The Military Ball inspires Esprit De Corps throughout the programs and is chaperoned by the JROTC cadre and the WSFCSPD.
