While JROTC is funded by the US Army and has many many military aspects, none of our cadets are obligated to join the military in any way shape or form.
For the block semester cadets, they wear their uniform every Wednesday but the year long cadets wear their uniform on Wednesday one week, Thursday the next, then Wednesday the next week and so on.
As the year goes on, your cadet will earn more rank and with gaining a higher rank, your cadet will take on more leadership and responsibility.
While again Jrotc is not a recruiting service for the military, there are scholarship opportunities for college ROTC based on merit, although it is not a requirement.
Each succesion of classes will learn a different set of material however, overall in class, your cadet will learn drill, citizenship, and the qualities of being a leader.
Atkins High School is the only high school in the WSFCS district that offers 6 extracurriculars pertaining to JROTC. These extracurriculars incude Color Guard, Cyberpatriots, Drill Team, JLAB, Raider Team, and Rifle Team.
For starters, your cadet is called to attention by the class leader, then everybody says the Cadet Creed, after that, the class leader takes roll and reports it to the AI or SAI, then everybody takes their seat. After that, there is always a brief lecture from the AI or SAI. Cadets will then work in their let book, participate in drill, do PT, or study for tests. At the end of the class, the cass leader calls the cadets to attention and dismisses them.
No but your cadet has to take Gym 1 and Health.
The material is rather simple but there is more going on than just a typical classroom. There are uniform inspections, drill checks, as well as projects and tests like a regular class. Just like any classroom, application is the hardest part.
Uniform and uniform accesories are provided by JROTC but like any other class, we ask that your cadet provides a binder and all other basic school necessities. In addition, especially the male cadets, we require you to a standard regulation haircut.
